You might think a chat between two old friends, both award-winning actresses, would be a conversation between equals. Alas, it is not. The younger, Anna Friel, has a close and supportive family, is opening in a new play and has a way of coping when down. The older, osar-winning Brenda Fricker, reveals she is broke, lonely and, since she can’t get work in her native Ireland (“The begrudgery gene lives in the Irish”), has had just three jobs in the past 18 years. When they first met, Friel says Fricker was her “guardian angel”, but there is no doubt who needs one now.
